Part of being a Good Southern Girl is being resourceful. And if it were completely up to my husband we would put every single cent of our income into savings, so needless to say I don’t have extra money for expenses, let alone clothes! I have always considered myself to not need too much help in the style department on account of my love of clothes, however I have had quite a bit of clothing sitting in my closet but always have the hankering “I have nothing to wear” feeling.
Then I met Helen, she owns Elevate, a personal styling service. This got me thinking….maaaybe she could help me? I decided I wanted to give some of my pieces new life for the new year so I gave Helen a call. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made!
First off, the process was soooo much fun! I felt like I was out shopping with a best friend, but the sweetest part was, I already OWNED all the clothes! Helen put together pieces I would have never thought of pairing in a million years!!! During our appointment I almost felt like a little girl again, playing dress up! It was a blast!
I ended up with fresh new looks to kick off the new year and spent significantly less than going out and buying even one new thing. If you haven’t ever considered working with a personal stylist, even if you are the most stylish fashionista out there, I highly recommend you reconsider. Helen offers a multitude of services, everything from a full closet makeover to vacation packing. She also works with clients on special occasion styling which I will definitely be utilizing in the near future. Helen’s rate is an incredibly affordable $50/hour and it is worth every penny. I walked away with several new outfits and looks, I would barely be able to purchase a new top for $50.
Helen tailors (no pun intended, sorry I really can’t help myself with puns) everything to her client. She makes sure that what’s in your closet is conducive to your current lifestyle, she also makes sure your closet is equipped with the right colors for you, and checks for the right fit. She also takes pictures of all the looks she creates, so that way you will never forget! Annnnd she discusses with you the items that may be missing from your wardrobe, and she will even go shopping for you to fill in the holes!
Helen put together four looks for me, all of them were pieces I already had in my closet…. I will walk you through them…
Helen spotted this purple scarf I had in my closet, I had actually never worn it. I’ve had it for about 3 years…. She then just started building the look with inspiration from the scarf and once I showed her my purple shoes, the look was a done deal. I also love the necklace, it is actually a vintage piece I received as a gift for my college graduation, it’s one of my favorite jewelry keepsakes.

Then we decided to do something a little more western, but with a preppy flare, Helen said don’t be afraid of winter white, especially when you want to brighten things up. Also, play around with accessories, that is what they are for…you don’t have to wear your belt through belt loops. Have fun with it!
Helen added a faux fur shaw that is also an oldie but goodie! I really loved how Helen developed layers for this look. It makes it so versatile, and really easy to change the entire look just by just changing one piece. For example, changing the color of the navy undershirt could give you a whole different vibe. And folks, every article of clothing shown here has been sitting in my closet for years, and they never found there way together, hence you NEED Helen.

Next, we wanted to take it up a notch….I’ve had this beautiful Nine Muses Dress just hanging in my closet, waiting for its chance to see the light, (Nine Muses is actually a local Dallas based designer and they make extraordinarily beautiful pieces, you should check them out! Nine Muses Collection)
Helen paired the dress with these awesome over the knee boots (my first pair, because sometimes I am afraid of trends). By the way, Helen’s tip for that is if you find yourself attracted to a trend, go by ONE inexpensive piece and try it out to see if you like it. I personally try to be very careful with trends, since as you can read, I keep my clothes for a long time and want to be able to wear things years after I buy them.
And just as I did, Helen fell in love with the gorgeous pleat in the back of the dress. She snatched this fur bolero I have had since high school, and put it over the dress. Yup, you heard me correctly. And if you don’t know my age, let’s keep it that way, let’s just say high school was a couple years back for me….. But the bolero in my opinion really made the look. It just added polish and finished the outfit.
If you are like me, then you have an unhealthy pearl obsession. How amazing is this super long strand of pearls? Not to mention the beautiful pearl tassel? Check out Christy Jean Jewelry to have your own custom piece designed for you.

Lastly, we wanted to put something together that you can lounge around in at home, or do some house work, but then you know…. I always somehow run out of laundry detergent on the day I decide to put no make up on and not get dressed, so running to the store seems out of the question. So Helen put together a look that you can actually go out in public while wearing, but it is still great for lounging too.
How cozy and fun is this scarf??
