This October I found myself the most Southern I have ever been. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic was my vacation destination and boy did it do itself justice! This was my first tropical vacation, so I am lacking a point of reference, but let me tell you it did not disappoint! The beach was practically stolen from a post card. Crystal clear water, plush sand and palm trees that floated against a clear blue sky. Read below on how I prepared for my trip and a couple of pictures on what I did once there.
So, you know the best part about going on a tropical vacation in October? Everything is on SALE! As I prepared for my trip, and slowly packed away my Summer closet, I put aside the things I knew I was going to take with me. This made packing pretty easy because everything I needed was already put together. Packing can be tough, especially when you consider the unknown and mix it with the fact that suit cases come in finite sizes.
Do you ever read those articles that make packing seem so easy? “How to pack for a two week trip with just 5 items” or how to pack a carry on for a 2 month long vacation. Ok, maybe I am exaggerating a little…. But the fact of the matter is, they don’t work. When I try implementing these various “packing light” strategies, my vacations are not so great. What I wear everyday and whether or not I like what I am wearing can dramatically affect my mood. I….. NEED…..OPTIONS!! I usually try to pack “light” and end up in panic mode because I have nothing I want to wear or feel comfortable in during my vacation. So let’s be realistic here…..
6 days, 5 nights and here is the list:
3 pairs of shorts
1 formal dress
3 bathing suits
2 hats (going on vacation without a hat is like forgetting underwear)
5 pairs of shoes
*don’t forget shower shoes! You don’t want to take your showers barefoot in a shower you don’t know who has been in. On top of that once your feet are clean, they often times turn dirty just as quickly by walking around barefoot in your hotel room.
Here are a couple of looks I put together as I was packing:
How cute is this top? Bought from Jcrew for a whopping $10 bucks! I told you I found great sales!
I ended up wearing this dress a couple times as a bathing suit cover up. Dresses make life so easy.
I fell in love with the colorful pink pattern of these shorts and the pink beading on the top could not have been more more perfect. The shoes have been preparing in my closet for their debut for a couple of years. Found them for $34 at one of Dillard’s awesome shoe sales! I felt like Punta Cana was the perfect time to let them come out and play.
I couldn’t resist this starfish bracelet when I spotted it at Christy Jean Jewelry. It was so fun and oozed warm weather vacation.
Using a clothing rack to put together everything for packing makes the process so much easier. If you don’t have one I highly recommend purchasing one! Here are a couple I would recommend:
