In my post, The Importance of Hand Written Notes I discuss the importance of quality. One aspect of quality that is becoming harder and harder for us to find is time. With smart phones practically glued to our hands it is essential to turn off your work button and take time to have some peaceful moments throughout the day and week. For me that comes in different forms. Whether doing bible study or cuddling with my puppies, I have made it a focus of mine to set aside quality time and be present in the moment. In fact, just the other night about 4 hours went by and I hadn’t even looked at the clock, even though I was working on chores, it felt great to not feel chained to time for even just 4 hours.
I decided I wanted to take this a step further and revisit a past time that I used to enjoy. So to kick off my upcoming vacation I took a trip to the golf course. I am not what you would call a proficient golfer, but I have been “dragged” out onto the course since age five, so I have a pretty good handle on what I am doing. Now that I am much older and am not forced to spend my free time on the course, I decided now would be the perfect time to take up the game especially since I am attempting to incorporate more quality experiences into my life.
What hobby or sport do you love, but have been talking yourself out of taking the time for lately? Is it sewing? Reading? Tennis? Painting? Shopping? Or maybe you enjoy some golf yourself….whatever it is, I encourage you to remove the to-do list from your mind, just erase it for one day, or even just a couple of hours, and take time to do what you love. What clears your mind or brings joy to your life. Normally on a Saturday I am running around trying to do laundry, dishes, and cleaning like a mad person, or getting ready for an event I have committed to.
While all of that is great, what good is a clean house or clean dishes, if I can’t enjoy it? Take out some time to enjoy life, because we don’t have much time here on earth. Foster relationships with people you love, and be present while doing so. On the golf course today, yeah I took some pictures, but I didn’t sit there scrolling on facebook or Instagram all day. I was present in the game and I was able to take the time to realize I was playing a game I really did enjoy and I would like to invest more time into.
