In today’s world, the name of the game is speed. How fast can you perform as many tasks as possible? While this strategy is intended for ultimate productivity and efficiency to be achieved, it leaves some holes. It is a rarity these days to feel as though people are putting much time and effort into producing quality products.
Something as simple as sitting down and hand writing a note to someone can make the difference between a tough day and a good day, or even a rough week or a great week. We are all busy, and we are failing more and more to take the time necessary to build and foster relationships. We are so caught up in quantity, how many friends, how many appointments, how much money I have. We have glorified being too busy to function. How is anyone supposed to enjoy their life? What happened to prioritizing? If something on your to do list doesn’t get done, move it to the top of tomorrow’s. When the day is done, or even at times throughout the day stop and read a book. Walk outside and get lost in your thoughts as you visit nature.
It is so easy to make everything in life a line item on the to do list. Make dinner, walk the dogs, make the bed, fold towels….the list goes on and on. We have lost having joy in living and morphed life’s joys into daunting tasks. Sit down and write some notes. Whether it is a thank you note, birthday card, or even “just because.” And you know what else??? Send it through the mail! Snail mail to be exact! Yes, you heard me correctly…. actually put a stamp on it and send it to someone through the mail. The gesture simply exudes reverence and appreciation. As the Holidays approach think about a personal way you can reach out to people that doesn’t include a text, email or facebook message.
